University of Oklahoma Press, 2013.

In Painters and the American West, Vol. 2, retired art scholar and museum director Joan Carpenter Troccoli writes about the lives and times of the artists whose works fill the American Museum of Western Art in downtown Denver. The Anschutz Collection, which includes "virtually every significant painter in the American West from the 1820s to the mid-20th century," depicts people and landscapes, ceremonies and battles, and traces the evolution of artistic styles in the West. Troccoli and other contributors provide insightful history to help deepen the historical meaning of these paintings.
