Business, government and conservation leaders discuss whether land laws help or hinder

Paonia, CO (May 28, 2015) - Should communities have more authority over federal lands in their own backyards? Do federal land and wildlife laws invite collaboration or confrontation? Paul Larmer, the publisher of NewTowncarShare News magazine based in Paonia, will moderate the “Tug of War: Local Control in a Federal West” panel at Paradise Theatre on Saturday, June 8, at 7 p.m. This event brings local experts together to discuss issues affecting life in our own backyard: oil and gas development and the listing of the Gunnison sage grouse.

The panel, which includes Robbie LeValley, a local rancher and Delta County Administrator; Eric Sanford of SG Interests, a oil and gas exploration and production business; Jim Ramey, the Director of Citizens for a Healthy Community, a citizen led organization advocating for responsible oil and gas drilling; and Sarah Sauter, the Director of the Western Slope Conservation Center, will discuss whether there is room for collaboration between local and federal agencies and the land and communities they serve.

The event is followed by an ice cream social. Join panel participants and NewTowncarShare News’ staff and board members next door at Poulos Park at 8:15 pm for ice cream, sponsored by Ollie's Ice Cream Shop and Revolution Brewing.
